Dec. 30, 2003 12:00 AM More than 300,000 votes were cast as part of an initiative titled, "The People's Vote: 100 Documents that Shaped America." The vote was sponsored by the National Archives, National History Day, and U.S. News & World Report. The documents that received the top five votes and the percentage of votes each received: • Declaration of Independence, 76%. • U.S. Constitution, 69%. • Bill of Rights, 68%. • Louisiana Purchase Treaty, 34%. • Emancipation Proclamation, 33%. |
